Music Transmitters
I have been on many raft-ups where every boat has on different radio stations or music from CDs or what ever, and it just ends up being a lot of noise. You can buy iPod transmitters, but I have found they are marginal at best.
A transmitter that actually works and works well is the C Crane FM Transmitter. The reason it works so well is that you can make a little adjustment inside the back to increase the performance. With this transmitter you can broadcast music from your iPod or computer. Just select a frequency on the transmitter that is not being use, and then just let everyone know. What is great each boat can pick the volume for the music, and you can even turn your stereo off.
If you go to google and type in C Crane FM Transmitter it will give you some places to order with the cheapest prices. I have seen the transmitter priced from $69 to $89 without shipping. I have also purchased the transmitter at Fry’s.
Here are some instructions I found on-line for making the adjustment. It is really easy!
1 - Remove the 2 screws under the two little round rubber feet on the back of the case just on the top left and right sides of the label.
2 - Open up the battery compartment and remove the small screw.
3 - Carefully remove the back cover. There are some thin wires so be very carefull not to break them. Also the back cover will catch on the gain/volume knob so take your time to work it off.
NOTE: If you do not want to remove the cover. You can remove the label on the back with the radio specs and find the little hole and adjust VR2 though the hole in the case.
4 - Locate the VR2 pot just to the top left of the Antenna connection. (See attached Picture)
5 - Using a small screwdriver rotate this pot control all the way to the right as far as it will go (Fully Clockwise). Be carfull not to break it.
(See attached picture for location details)
The picture shows what VR2 looks like before the MOD has been done.
6 - Place the cover back and then screw the cover back on.
After I did the MOD. the range went from 20 feet to 100 feet.
That's all that's to it.
