him to work on the engine side of your generator, that is another person.  When I called someone in the delta they said sure they could work on a generator, but would start charging from the time they left their business in the delta till they got back.  That would be a killer, I sure was lucky to find Jim.  He is an electrical engineer and knows boats.  I can’t say enough about how I appreciate Jim for his honest and quality work.

General Engine & Boat Maintenance

John has done some work for friends I know and was recommended because he took care of some quite technical engine sensor problems.  He also changed some difficult to get to engine impellers for me.  He was working for a local dealer and with the slow times went out on his own.  He is very fair priced and will travel to you.  John is certainly on my list for engine work and advice.  John has a great web site with more detail on services and charges at www.aquamobilemarine.com

J N A has this nice husband and wife shop in West Sacramento.  While I’m sure the Jess is an outstanding mechanic, his wife, Natalie, is the one who has worked on my outboard.  Peter Robinson also has high praise for there work.  They do great engine work and I suspect they work on stern drives as well.  Peter and I both agree they do outstanding work and deliver on time.  They are fair priced and you can trust them to do what they say.  They like to work on boats and outboard motors that are brought to their shop.

Vacuum Flush Marine Toilet Parts

I was having trouble finding VacuFlush toilet parts and Terry Reigelsperger said he called this place in San Diego and they were really helpful and had the parts to him quickly.  Not to mention providing good advice.  I tried West Marine but they didn’t carry the parts in any of the Sacramento Stores.  While you can call Terry, Rob from Fire Escape, or the Boater Guy for advice, call these folks for parts.  We have the stories they have the parts.  :)

River City Marine

Bob from Tsunami highly recommended Nick from River City Marine.  They do boat repair, trailer repair, outdrive repair, engine overhaul gas or diesel, marine fiberglass gel coat, stereo, marine electronics, marine generators, houseboat repair, houseboat and yacht transport, bottom painting ship wrighting

It also appears he only works on boats brought to his shop.  I don’t have a lot of information but I will get more soon.  If Bob recommends Nick then I would feel very comfortable brining a boat to him for service.  I believe Nick has his shop in West Sacramento.

I have gone down this road with a new refrigerator that obviously looked like it as added.  This time I decided to pay what ever it cost for a new compressor so everything would look right.  I expected to pay around $800 for the repair, if that was even possible.  I called Prestige Appliances which is a family owned business off of Green Valley Rd in El Dorado Hills, and they said bring it in.  They could have easily sold me a new compressor, but they told me it was another part.  They even did another little repair that was going to give me a problem soon, and the cost was well under $300.  Now that was a great surprise.  While I’m sure not every story turns out this well, they were quick to get the repair done, and they gave me my old parts.  I know many of you have had ice for your drinks from this ice maker, so before you buy new, consider a repair.   You can check them out on their web site www.prestigeappliance.com   or give them a call.  As I said they are a family own business Ian, Mandy & Sam Freer, husband, wife and son, and they work out of a shop at their house.  Mandy usually answers the phone.

Refrigerator & Ice Maker Repair - Prestige Appliances

Refrigerator & Ice Maker Repair as well as home appliances.  The ice maker on Dithpicable stopped working, and I was certain it was the compressor.  New ones started around $1,100 and went up from there.  Of course U-Line, the maker, changed models and of course the sizes.  So new ones would not fit the space.  

West Coast Canvas - Boat Canvas & Upholstery

Located off of Highway 12 in Tower Park, Curt Page and his folks do some of the best work around.  I have seen them come to Sacramento for some jobs and I suspect that has to do with the bad economy.  Most times they want you to bring your boat to them.  Again they do great work and they generally charge for it.  The back canvas of Dithpicable was done by West Coast and it is a great job.   Their web site is www.westcoastcanvas.com

Acme Tops & Tunes - Upholstery Canvas and Audio/Video

A number of folks have used Acme and I had them make the sunning cushion for the bow of Dithpicable and also the seating cushion for the sitting area on the swim platform. Liquid Service Center - Boat Service & Repair

I have known Mike Nardo for years. He use to work for Berry Paulson’s Boat Center before they closed the business.  He had to put up with me looking, looking and more looking at the new boats.  We even bought the same model 4 Winns Boat.  Anyway Mike opened his own Shop and does quality boat service.  Along with almost any kind of repair or service you need, his shop can also do Volvo Penta warrantee work.

Mike has factory trained technicians working for him.  He has a pretty impressive shop and they  are located at 2550 Mercantile Dr. Suite A, Rancho Cordova, CA 95742.  That is over by Sunrise Blvd.  He has a great web site, Liquid Service Center, with lots more information.

J&H Marine in Stockton

Eric from J&H Marine from Stockton found our web site and asked to be included.  It looks like J&H Marine has been around for over 35 years, and it is great to find a Kohler generator mechanic.  Seems like gen sets are the least reliable part on a boat, well next to the Captain.  :)  Eric’s company also works on Diesel motors as well so that is a great addition.  He said J&H Marine’s primary focus is mechanical work, specializing in power generation and large diesel propulsion engines.  J&H Marine’s web site is www.jhmarine.com so please visit for more information.  Also if you have any feed back it would be nice to hear.
